Dog Crate Bowl

When transporting your puppy or leaving him home alone it’s always important that your pet always has access to water and stays hydrated. To ensure this when using a dog crate it is simply a case of installing a dog crate bowl (also referred to as a dog crate cup).

Dog crate bowls are easy to install and ensure your dog doesn’t go thirsty, or worse dehydrate. Dog crate bowls are of a fairly standard design with a few key differences between brands and models.

Selecting a dog crate bowldog crate bowl

Selecting the dog crate bowl that works for you is a matter of asking yourself a few key questions that will affect which crate bowl you should purchase:

  • Will I be travelling often (or at all) with my dog in his crate
  • Will my dog chew through and destroy a plastic dog crate bowl (usually with puppies this is probably a yes)

The few subtle but very important differences in designs for dog crate bowls that we suggest looking at are:

  • Spill proof – these crate bowls have a lip around the edge of the opening and while they aren’t 100% spill proof they will prevent your dog ending up with no water left in his bowl by the time you get two blocks down the road.
  • Construction materials – we suggest stainless steel dog crate bowls for their durability and longevity. With a stainless steel dog crate cup you won’t end up with a chewed up piece of plastic. They also shouldn’t break where they connect to the side of your dog crate.
  • Holding mechanism – there are a few different styles of mechanisms to connect your dog crate bowl to your crate, which to choose depends on what you will be doing. If you’re travelling with your dog it may be worth looking at one that bolts onto the crate or clips solidly to the door. If you’re not doing a lot of travel you may be after a crate dog bowl that will simply hook onto your crate (these can still be knocked off by your puppy).

At the end of the day a dog crate bowl isn’t something that you want to be dishing out money for every few weeks or months, so we suggest getting something that will suit all your needs and is going to withstand the test of time.
